Winter 1970. Only a few channels on TV. Fireplace lit. You are 14 years old and finaly your dad is home for a longer period of time since business is slow due to bad weather. Out of nowhere your dad asks if you feel like doing something together. You go like “sure, like what?”. Dad says it involves fire, dangers tempretures of about 300-400 degrees Celsius. So you are like “NICE”, because your interest is woken. Dad ups the ante and says it also involves manslaughter, canons and battle. Now you are really intrigued (?)! “TELL ME, TELL ME. So dad explanes you are going to building your own army from scratch…together! Exactly the way you want them to! You are going to make toy soldiers.

Some background history on domino

Domino is an old game and developed outside Europe. The Domino evolved from dice and were originally white with black dots. In the middle ages it became popular in Italy first before spreading throughout Europe. The word “domino” seems to come from the original look of the stones. Two black dots (the eyes) on a white background looked like a kind of hood worn by Christian priests The Italian word for it was “domino”.  Dominoes is still played all over the world but it is most popular in South-America where it is actually a national game of many countries.

The populairity of the game lies in the fact that the stones are actually quite simple to make and easy to carry. Yet there is a large variety of games that can be played with them. This way it is great for a pub game with more players and still playable after several drinks. But there are also advanced rules for interesting strategic games for 2 playes.

There are several things I am interested in. Amongst these are drinking beer, collecting and vintage stuff. Resulting in picking up vintage beer mugs whenever I can. I think the region I live in is very good for this. In the Netherlands we have several world famous breweries like Heineken. But being close to Germany, Belgium and France results in very different styles, brands and ages for picking out these great vintage beer mugs.
