This is an original hardly used Cona Coffee maker from 19984 (see bottom) in the largest size D that produces about 6 – 8 cups of coffee. This one is specially branded DE for Douwe Egberts from the Netherlands. The Cona was invented by Abram Games in England (1947) in his laboratory and is becoming a design-classic, making the finest coffee with scientific flair. In the 2000’s the patent was sold to A. Gezang & Co, a company in The Hague (The Netherlands) that first imported and now produces the Cona to almost exact specs, since there was little to no room for improvement. This one is in like new condition including Dutch instructions, again signed by DE – Douwe Egberts from Holland.
The basis for this is the innovative use of the thrust of overpressure through heating followed by underpressure through cooling, you can see the video below for the exact procedure. The result is a very hot and cup of pleasant tasting medium strong coffee without bitter or sediment.
The burner works on commonly available fire / cleaning spirit, the special heat resistant glass is easy to clean and extra strong. The design is beautiful and the procedure a great show to look at (can be speeded up by heating already boiling water).
